About Me

“Ko Parahakia te maunga. Ko Hatea te awa. Ko Ngatokimatawhaorua te waka. Ko Ngāpuhi tōku iwi. No Hokianga ahau. I live in Eastbourne, Lower Hutt. I grew up in Whangarei, with my paternal family originating from the Hokianga, I have a strong connection to Northland and a need to live by the sea. My university studies took me to the University of Waikato and Victoria University, with teaching being my chosen career. I have been happily married for over 30 years and have four adult children. It was supporting my children’s needs and interests that took me into community work and governance. I relish working collaboratively with others. I am a respectful listener, and I am able to critically consider a variety of perspectives to find a solution that works. I bring with me the energy, enthusiasm, and commitment that colleagues say are hallmarks of how I work. ”
