About Me

“I have been writing for 30+ years. I worked in radio journalism before I settled in Napier, did my OE, moved to print journalism, and married a farmer. Thomas and I now own a 5ha lifestyle block at Takapau and have two children, aged 19 and 21, at university. I have been self-employed, trading as communiKate, since 2000. My journalism background has given me the ability to be impartial across a variety of issues and the ability to deal with people from a variety of backgrounds, as well as a strong network of contacts here and around the country. My background in all things rural and provincial, both professionally and personally, as listed below, has stood me in great stead in my governance journey to date. My common sense, basic approach to good governance leads to better, more ethical decision making; I have a sound understanding of the obligations, processes and intent of governance, but am also committed to continuous improvement. My core values include honesty, integrity and respect, and giving service to my community. Reputation is important to me – both my own and the organisations I represent. My strengths include communication, positivity, advocacy and inclusion.”
